We have attended the Scottish Highland Games of Central California for several years. There is always so much to see, music, food, vendors and kilts everywhere! Pipes and drums can literally be heard all day long and I swear I had the sound of bagpipes playing in my head for close to a week afterwards! For the last two years the event has been held at beautiful and historical Kearney Park of Fresno.
The Scottish Highland games of Central California is an event sponsored by the Scottish Society of Central California. The focus of the Society is to promote an interest in all things Scottish such as culture, traditions and Scottish heritage. You can read more here about the Scottish Society of Central California. Take some time and browse through some of the links, you may find something that is of particular interest to you!
For the past two years we have set up a booth with our Celtic jewelry from Gaelic Forge.
It’s always fun for us to sell at these events, the weather is good, the people are friendly and there are always memorable conversations. Two of our kids, Woody and Lacey came with us, it’s fun to spend the day with them and we enjoy their company! We love when this turns into a family event for us.
My husband and son always dress with their kilts of Henderson Tartan for these festivities. Although I am not of Scottish descent, I can also wear the tartan. In the past I have worn a scarf of Henderson tartan. Woody is the head of the Clan Henderson South Pacific Region Bodyguard. Simply put this means that he is to help at clan gatherings and manage more formal affairs such as parades and opening and closing ceremonies.
We look forward to participating in the Scottish Highland Games of Central California again next year, maybe we will see you there!
